Eulexin (flutamide) is a nonsteroidal antiandrogen (NSAA) useful in treating metastatic prostate cancer. It is typically administered along with a luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone (LHRH) for further benefit.

This product is widely available around the world under a range of brand or generic names. In the vast majority of cases it's only possible to buy it in strengths of 125 or 250 mg, however; it is rare that dosage deviates from 125 mg or its multiples.

Prostate Cancer & Eulexin

The majority of patients buy Eulexin to treat prostate cancer that has metastasized, or begun to spread. Cancers are always complicated and the information here is a rough guideline; doctor instructions may vary and should be followed closely.

In the man, androgens---particularly testosterone and its metabolite dihydrotestosterone---fuel prostate cancer, allowing it to thrive, grow, and spread. Anti-androgens like Eulexin interact with androgen receptors, denying the cancer substantial amounts of testosterone, dihydrotestosterone, and other androgens.

A luteinizing hormone-releasing hormone, or LHRH, is usually given along with Eulexin. LHRHs tell the body to stop producing androgens; together with Eulexin, the two medications nearly completely deprive the cancer of androgens. LHRH is typically administered by a doctor, either as an implant under the skin or by periodic injections.

Again personal instructions can vary, but in general:

• Take 250 mg Eulexin every 8 hours (three times per day), for a total daily dose of 750 mg.

Duration of treatment can also be highly variable, ranging from a few months to years. An LHRH is sometimes started prior to initiating Eulexin treatment, or may be started at the same time. It's important to follow doctor instructions carefully.

Regular doctor checkups are also important, to ensure the medication is working and to monitor for developing side effects. Liver function is of particular concern with Eulexin; though rare, severe liver damage can happen.

Developing Female Characteristics

Patients also buy Eulexin to develop female characteristics, either because they are women suffering from hypergonadism or because they are men who wish to appear as a woman. The medication can also be used to help with male-pattern baldness.

It is difficult to quantify treatment for these off-label uses, as there's no clinical trials or official dosage information available. Dosage and duration of treatment can vary widely, and are best determined by a doctor who can take into account personal variables.

That said, treatment typically runs from 125 to 500 mg per day, divided into two or three daily doses when possible. If self-diagnosing, patients generally want to start with the lower, 125 mg dose for a couple of months to see how it goes. In general, one can take lower doses (500 mg or under) of Eulexin for 6 months and any side effects---breasts developing, for example---will be reversible.

Women planning to buy Eulexin should be aware that the medication is known to cause birth defects. Women of childbearing age must be careful to avoid pregnancy; those who are pregnant should not even handle Eulexin tablets. Likewise men taking Eulexin should always use a condom if having intercourse with a pregnant woman.
